There's a tech job right now where mid-level engineers reportedly make $300–400K, job postings grew over 1,000% in a single year, and most developers have never heard of it. It's called a forward-deployed engineer, and OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Palantir are all fighting over the same small pool of people who can do it.
The interesting part: it's not a high-level PhD research role. The skills are mostly things a solid developer can pick up fairly quickly, but stacked in one specific combination that almost nobody has.
